Notovoluta baconi

I consider baconi one of the most difficult West Australian volutes to obtain. We were very lucky to come across this exceptional specimen with the ROV.  It was collected during September 2024 from 195 metres of water west of Leeman in Western Australia.

It is a solid shell with the brilliant baconi colour and tented patterns. I am only aware of one other live specimen being collected which was a juvenile we collected at Margaret River twelve years ago.

As can be seen in the photos it is near perfect, graded Gem- to be conservative . An immaculate live specimen of an extremely rare and striking volute including a tissue sample for DNA analysis.
